Meet April

Teacher, Mentor, Guide

About

Hello, I’m April — a wellness-centered educator, learning designer, and yoga teacher dedicated to helping individuals and teams grow with purpose, clarity, and confidence.

I bring over 5,000 hours of online teaching experience in Business and ESL, along with a passion for creating learning environments that are both practical and deeply human. With a background in business strategy, communications, and content creation in the healthcare and spa sectors, I specialize in bridging theory and real-world application for adult learners. Whether I’m teaching marketing, workplace communication, or cultural fluency, my goal is to design learning experiences that empower people to thrive in diverse, global contexts.

As a certified yoga and mindfulness facilitator, I integrate self-inquiry, emotional intelligence, and reflection into the classroom. I believe that soft skills like empathy, presence, and focus are just as essential as business acumen — and that we learn best when our whole selves are welcomed into the process.

I’ve had the honor of teaching at Robertson College and sharing workshops across the country, drawing on my training in Vinyasa, Yin, and Restorative yoga, as well as certifications from McGill University (Applied Marketing & PR) and Harvard University (Higher Education Teaching).

Through every course I design and every session I lead, I aim to cultivate clarity, connection, and resilience — helping learners show up with confidence in both professional and personal spaces.

Teaching Philosophy

In the summer of 2022, amid the challenges of unemployment following the end of a 20-year long career in sales and business development, I faced a pivotal moment. During a candid conversation with my sister, an operations manager at a private college, I poured out the challenges and the pervasive uncertainty about my future. It was in this moment of vulnerability that she asked me a question that would alter my trajectory: “What about teaching?” Initially skeptical, I felt unprepared. However, as she highlighted the college's need for subject matter experts in business, my perspective shifted. What began as self-doubt transformed into a conviction—I could teach. Inspired by my family's legacy in education, my sister’s faith in my potential became a catalyst for change, encouraging me to embark on a new and fulfilling career in teaching.

Being a teacher is who I am, and its deeply rooted in my experience as a subject matter expert, enhanced by my continuous professional development, and fueled by my talents as guide and leader. My approach is uniquely shaped by these innate qualities, providing a distinctive perspective to my teaching practices. My commitment to continuous improvement, inclusivity, and reflective practices has defined my journey into teaching. I recognize that teaching is an evolving process, and I actively seek feedback from students and peers. The positive outcomes of my teaching methods are evident not only in student evaluation surveys but also in peer commendations. I leverage this feedback loop to adjust my approach, ensuring it aligns with the diverse needs of my students. Inclusivity takes a central role in my teaching ethos, valuing the diverse perspectives and experiences each student brings. I am dedicated to creating an inclusive classroom that fosters a sense of belonging for every student. Reflective practices are foundational to my teaching philosophy, promoting regular self-assessment and critical examination of my pedagogical strategies. While I may be new to the formalities of teaching, my commitment to these principles’ ground me as a teacher.

My mission is to cultivate a dynamic and transformative learning environment. I want to give students a solid knowledge base and help them master the skills they need to tackle the challenges of the business world. It’s not just about theory —but fostering the development of effective communicators, adept administrators, strategic sales professionals, and savvy marketers. I aspire to nurture a mindset of continuous learning, adaptability, and resilience, preparing students not only for the challenges of today but also for the evolving landscape of tomorrow.

Recognizing the fundamental role of business in our daily lives, I look forward to endless learning and growth in the field. My sister's belief in my ability to transition to teaching mirrors my belief in the untapped potential of my students. I am committed to creating an environment where students can discover their unique strengths, set ambitious goals, and embark on their own transformative educational journey.
